About the Company: An EV startup.
Role Overview:
As a BIW Design Engineer – Static Structures, you will be responsible for converting CAS/Class-A surfaces into manufacturable, production-ready static body and BIW components.
This role focuses on structural integrity, manufacturability, tolerances, and cost efficiency, while working closely with simulation and manufacturing teams to close the design-to-production loop.
Key Responsibilities:
- Convert CAS/Class-A surfaces into production-ready static BIW and body components.
- Design BIW and non-moving body structures, including floors, cross-members, pillars, roof structures, and reinforcements, in accordance with strength and durability requirements.
- Ensure manufacturability, tolerances, and joining feasibility.
- Coordinate with simulation and manufacturing teams to validate designs.
- Support tooling, fixtures, and production discussions.
- Work with sheet metal, composites, or structural plastics depending on vehicle architecture.
- Address GD&T, DFMEA, and design standards relevant to BIW development.
- Resolve build and assembly issues identified during prototype and trial builds.
- Maintain CAD release discipline, version control, and documentation.
- Support cost and weight optimization without compromising structural integrity.
What You’ll Work On:
- Static BIW structures for a modular EV platform.
- Production-feasible body components optimized for cost and weight.
- Design iterations driven by build, tooling, and validation feedback.
- Close collaboration with CAE and manufacturing during scale-up.
Requirements:
- B.Tech/B.E. – Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 2–3 years of experience in BIW or automotive body design.
- Prior exposure to OEM or Tier-1 development environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of BIW structures and body architecture.
- Knowledge of sheet metal, composites, or structural plastics.
- Familiarity with DFMEA, GD&T, and automotive standards.
- Strong CAD skills in CATIA and SolidWorks.
